Members Newsletter - Events this Fall and Winter!
Our October 13th FBA VI 2.0 and all That Jazz event was a great success. We had a fantastic turnout and met many new family business owners. Bilston Creek Farm has joined us. People really appreciated hearing lessons from the jazz world and also loved the music!
During the workshop session, we got a lot of great information about events coming up.
So hold your calendar for the following events:
Annual General Meeting - Thursday, November 17th 6-8pm
Robinsons Outdoor Store at 1307 Broad St, Victoria, BC
Meeting for all members! Join us to review the previous year and plan for years to come. Wine and cheese.
We encourage those of you who might want to serve on the board to put your name forward at this meeting. The minimum amount of time required to serve on the board is three hours per month for board meetings and preparation along with committee work.
Being a board member provides you with an opportunity to lead and shape direction as we craft our future. Barb Quinn is a certified board director and is helping us to understand and improve our board governance which is a really valuable experience for those of you who perhaps haven’t had exposure to this kind and level of board expertise. We can take those insights and apply it to our own business. Materials will be emailed prior to the AGM. Register here>> (free; but we'd like details for catering; you will need to be logged into your FBA account on WildApricot).
The Art of Negotiation - Thursday, December 8th 5-7pm
Coast Victoria Hotel & Marina, 146 Kingston Street, Victoria BC, in the Ballroom
The art and science of negotiation will feature key speaker Dan Johnston, a lawyer and one of the most sought-after mediators not only in BC but globally. He will be joined by Janice Bell, a family counsellor who has worked with family-owned business owners to negotiate and resolve major conflicts. We will also have a family-owned business member be part of this panel. This event will be powerful with takeaway lessons that can be applied in your family and in business. Exclusive and free for Members. Register here>> (free; but we'd like details for catering; you will need to be logged into your FBA account on WildApricot).
What the Next Generation Wants You to Know - Tuesday, January 10th, 2023 8-930am
Camosun College – campus and parking details will follow later
Too often the first generation of owners do not really understand what is on the minds and in the hearts of their children, those who work for the business and those who choose not to.
This will be a panel of our members including second, third and fourth generations providing insights, wisdom and advice on what they think and feel you need to know. If you’re just beginning transition or even if you have completed the transition, this session will provide lasting insights that you can put into practice. Free to Members! Registration will be available soon.
